A well-deserved sleep-in is bliss. Who doesn’t love to be nuzzled up in a warm bed, dreaming away without a care in the world?
A sleep-in when you didn’t actually sleep in is not so blissful. Like when your HeadUp graph shows you longer sleep durations than you expect to see.
Let us reassure you that we’re not taking it upon ourselves to assume you’re hitting the snooze button! After all, it’s not possible for us to create data, rather, we analyse the data we receive from your sleep app via the Health app.
If your sleep durations are looking too lengthy, it is likely that you have more than one sleep app sending data to the Health app. For example, if you downloaded both the Pillow app and Sleep ++ app, both may be recording your sleep and sending this data to the Health app – resulting in overlapping sleep entries.
Now we’ve established the cause of the problem, what to do next?
Pick a favourite: Uninstall those additional sleep apps until only one remains. It’s a bit ruthless we know, but sometimes you gotta be cruel to be kind!
Turn off any additional sleep apps in the Health app: If you can’t bring yourself to uninstall, simply follow the steps below to stop your additional sleep apps sending data to the Health app.
Step 1. Open the Health app.
Step 2. Select ‘Sources’ from the bottom panel.
Step 3. Select the sleep app you want to turn off (you may need to scroll through the app list).
Step 4. Under the heading “Allow to write data” you’ll see this is currently turned ON (see example below). Please turn this option OFF.
Step 5. Repeat this process for any additional sleep apps.
After uninstalling/turning off the data for your additional sleep apps, you should notice a change in the sleep duration on the HeadUp graph for the following nights.
Please note: Some of your old sleep data will remain.
But wait! Don’t close this FAQ just yet! It’s important to note that the HeadUp Sleep Duration rating is based on the average sleep duration recorded within the past 28 nights.
This means that your previous sleep entries will still be included in the calculation of your sleep rating until they expire. (Learn more about the 28-day rolling-time window)
Depending on how many previous sleep entries are still valid on your account, it may take a week or more of new sleep entries before your sleep duration average is lowered to a more accurate time length.
We know that waiting can be tedious, so why not use this a perfect opportunity to cultivate improved patience (actively practicing patience is associated with better mental health outcomes and higher likelihood of goal achievement!). Just keep in mind those classic 1990’s Pantene shampoo commercials – “It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen!”
